Although we’d had test screenings and I’d shown My Millennial Life to each of the subjects when it was done, it was both nerve wracking and exciting for all of us to watch the finished documentary with over 500 other people.
The TVO presented premiere screening at the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema was greeted by the crowd with enthusiasm, laughter and tears. It was clear they identified and/or sympathized with the subjects’ stories.
When the lights came up, Emily, Meron, James and Hope and I joined Nam Kiwanuka, co-host of TVO’s Agenda, on stage for a discussion about the film.
We began by talking about the dreams and expectations 20somethings have today. This was followed by more direct questions for the subjects including:
– Did you get a job?
– Are you still with your boyfriend?
– Was your start-up a success?
– Would you move back to your parents?
– What’s next?
The documentary captured a moment in time, but clearly life goes on for Emily, Meron, James, Hope and Tim.
