My Millennial Life Free Screening at the Toronto Reference Library

The holiday season is almost here and, if you’re a college or university student, you probably feel like you have more deadlines than you can handle. Maybe this is the final lap before you graduate and you’re not sure where you’re heading when school is done. Instead of stressing, take a break and be entertained, captivated and surprised.

The Toronto Reference Library is presenting a free screening of My Millennial Life on Thursday, December 1, 6:30 pm. It’s part of the library’s Thought Exchange Series, an eclectic collection of lectures and discussions across the city. MY MILLENNIAL LIFE PLAYS AT RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

Julian Chou-Lambert at Raindance with My Millennial Life

My Millennial Life screened Saturday, October 1 across the pond at London’s Raindance Film Festival. I wasn’t able to go, but our distributor TVF International represented the film. Julian Chou-Lambert (TVF) was there and had a dynamic conversation with the audience:

“[There was] lots of lively debate afterward during the Q&A. Both millennials and boomers were interested in the film – one man gave a particularly moving testimony about how his millennial son had been going through a very tough year, and that he had learned a lot of new perspectives from the film. Many were interested in the social campaign side of the doc, too.” Continue reading “MY MILLENNIAL LIFE PLAYS AT RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL”

Heading to the Portland Film Festival

We’re heading west to the Portland Film Festival for the U.S. festival premiere of My Millennial Life. A big thanks to our amazing subjects, Hope, Emily, James, Meron, and Tim. And to our incredibly talented production team and TVO.

PDXFF is a non-profit independent film fest, co-founded in 2013 by filmmaker Joshua Leake. The festival gained immediate recognition as a launching pad and in 2015 MovieMaker Magazine named it “one of the 25 coolest festivals in the world”. Continue reading “Heading to the Portland Film Festival”

Critical Acclaim for My Millennial Life

Every time I make a film, I’m both excited and apprehensive about the premiere and sending it out to the world. You put so much energy into it, you hope people can relate, but it’s hard to gauge what the response will be.

Rather than looking at millennials as a statistic, the way they’re treated in so many articles and posts, we chose to delve deeper and capture our subjects, and their challenges and dreams over the period of a year or more. We tried to step into their shoes and show their perceptions of the world. Continue reading “Critical Acclaim for My Millennial Life”

My Millennial Life Screening Plays to Full House

Although we’d had test screenings and I’d shown My Millennial Life to each of the subjects when it was done, it was both nerve wracking and exciting for all of us to watch the finished documentary with over 500 other people.

The TVO presented premiere screening at the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema was greeted by the crowd with enthusiasm, laughter and tears. It was clear they identified and/or sympathized with the subjects’ stories.  Continue reading “My Millennial Life Screening Plays to Full House”
