You put so much energy into it, you hope people can relate, but it\u2019s hard to gauge what the response will be.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Rather than looking at millennials as a statistic, the way they\u2019re treated in so many articles and posts, we chose to delve deeper and capture our subjects, and their challenges and dreams over the period of a year or more. We tried to step into their shoes and show their perceptions of the world.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h6 class=\"p1\">Reaction from the Globe and Mail and Toronto Star<\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MisterJohnDoyle\" target=\"_blank\">John Doyle<\/a>, TV critic of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/arts\/television\/john-doyle-important-statement-about-millennials-please-have-sympathy\/article30188539\/\" target=\"_blank\">Globe and Mail<\/a>, called the film: \u2018A major work about the\u00a0current twentysomething\u00a0generation\u2026As this lovely textured documentary unfolds and we learn more about the subjects, going beneath the surface, all we can feel is sympathy.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EmmaRoseTeitel\" target=\"_blank\">Emma Teitel<\/a>, columnist for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/news\/canada\/2016\/05\/29\/the-struggle-has-always-been-real-for-young-people-teitel.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Toronto Star<\/a> and also a millennial, noted that the film \u2018succeeds at capturing the little things that render millennial, big city life lonely: For one, trying to upsell your achievements and downplay your failures to mom over Skype\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Teitel, \u2018can\u2019t ditch the feeling that while millennial despair and disillusionment is exacerbated by a crappy, changing economy, it is also probably universal to youth in any modern era.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Reading her column, I couldn\u2019t help thinking back to my twenties when I was first working, renting an apartment and falling in love.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Clearly, gaining independence was easier and the future a lot clearer, but many of the universal travails of growing up that are captured in the film are relatable to multiple generations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every time I make a film, I\u2019m both excited and apprehensive about the premiere and sending it out to the world.
